Common Questions

Do I have a case?

Plain answers to the questions most people ask before they call us. Every situation is different — a free consultation is always the best way to find out.

If you were terminated, demoted, harassed, or denied wages you earned, you may have a viable claim. The circumstances matter — timing, documentation, and the employer's stated reason all factor in. The best way to find out is a free confidential consultation with Mr. Mathews, who evaluates every matter personally and will give you an honest assessment without obligation.
We handle most matters on a contingency fee basis — meaning you pay no attorneys' fees unless we recover money for you. The consultation is free and creates no obligation. If we take your case, we advance the costs of litigation; you only pay if we win. There is no financial risk to finding out where you stand.
Not necessarily. Many cases resolve through settlement before trial. However, we prepare every case as if it will go before a jury — and that preparation is precisely why opposing counsel and their clients take our demands seriously. When trial is warranted, Mr. Mathews has tried hundreds of jury cases and knows how to win them.
Employment and class action litigation typically takes 12 to 36 months, depending on case complexity, the defendant's willingness to negotiate, and whether the matter proceeds to trial. Mr. Mathews will give you a realistic timeline and keep you informed at every stage. Whistleblower cases with government investigation components can take longer.
Possibly. Some arbitration agreements are unenforceable under California law; others contain exceptions for public policy violations, wage theft claims, or sexual harassment matters under the EFAA. Whether your agreement is valid and binding is a fact-specific legal question. Bring your employment documents to the consultation and we will review them at no charge.
Retaliation for filing a complaint or participating in protected activity is itself an independent legal violation — often one of the most valuable claims in the case. California law and federal statutes provide strong anti-retaliation protections. If your employer retaliates after you file, that action typically strengthens your position, not theirs.

Every consultation is strictly confidential. No obligation. No pressure.
